Room Mate Bruno Hotel

Rotterdam, Netherlands

The studio has completed the design concept and refurbishment of the biggest Room Mate Hotel to date, located in Rotterdam. This project involved developing a bespoke concept for the hotel, in accordance with the Room Mate brand, and furthermore, being able to translate it into volumes, spaces and architecture that provide amazing and unique experiences for both the customers and the employees.  The building is embued with history as it used to be the ancient spices depot of the Dutch East India Company.

Room Mate is known for designing hotels that are characters themselves, showing their visitors and customers part of the city through their own story. In this case, Bruno is a sailor from the Dutch West India Company, who wants to show you this building and introduce you to Rotterdam’s history and heritage. Using this approach has multiple benefits: it helps develop a design concept that is site specific; it creates a more personal, mysterious and bespoke spaces; and finally, from the very start, it starts to provide a local experience through a contemporary design interpretation.
