Teresa Sapey

Teresa Sapey studies at the Polytechnic School of Turin where she graduates with honors in 1985. Influenced by her child dream of being artist she obtained the degree in Fine Arts at the Parson School of Design in Paris. Upon completion, the Ministry of Public Instruction of Rome granted her a scholarship to study a Master of Architecture where she specializes in design, development and ergonomics of workplaces. At the same time, Teresa obtains the EAEC (Certificats d’Etudes Approfondiesen Architecture) at the Faculty of Architecture La Villette in Paris (UPA6).

In 1990, opens in Madrid the studio that bears her name that is characterized by always willing to accept creative challenges of any scope. Her work is especially highlighted on the redesigning of “non-places”, urban transit spaces such as car parks, bridges, walkways or squares that initially have been designed without a sense of design. In fact, Jean Nouvel re-baptizes Teresa Sapey as “Madame Parking” for her artistic contribution in the parking lot of the Hotel Puerta de America in Madrid where she participates in 2004 with starchitects like Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, David Chipperfield, Ron Arad or Arata Isozaki. In 2005 she won the competition to design the flagship store of Custo Barcelona in Madrid and thanks to the innovative proposal Teresa is awarded with the Interior Architecture Prize of Madrid Council. Her work is applauded by the way she applies color and light to the spaces. It is this vital and luminous vision which makes her been chosen, among others, as an architect of three of the Room Mate hotels.

During these years, the architect also gets involved in education making several collaborations with La Villette in Paris and participating in workshops and events held by the Domus Academy in Milan. Furthermore, she directs the Final Project at the Interior Design Degree at the IED, she is professor at the University Camilo Jose Cela in Madrid, where teaches about plastic research, she is honorary professor at Rey Juan Carlos I University and, since 2004, she is a visiting professor at the Masters design and architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

Since 1989, year in which Teresa participates for the first time at the World Congress on architecture work and commercial spaces in Sweden, has continued to participate and chairing numerous conferences worldwide. In 2007, Teresa was invited as an observer of the Biennale of Architecture in Venice and in 2008 participated in the World Congress of Creativity in Islamic communities in Dubai. During 2013 she travels to Colombia to give a series of lectures at architecture universities in the country, doing the same in 2014 in Argentina and in 2015 she has been invited as a workshop teacher at several universities in Italy. The work of the architect has been published in numerous national and international media. The TS study, based in Madrid since 1990, has specialized in architecture and Emotional Design multidisciplinary team. The study highlights the curiosity that has developed over the years to design energetic spaces and execution of projects of ephemeral architecture, graphic design and product design. The projects are born with the aim of provoking emotions and sensations in users of spaces and products. The Sapey team is an expert in project development imbued with a delicate sensibility that emerges through the built space. Humor, color and harmony sprout both interaction and relationships with people, which is one of the purposes of space. Freedom of thought and expression intermingle with creativity, functionality, art and design, resulting spaces “tailor made”. Study philosophy speaks of freedom of thought and expression. Properly combining creativity, functionality, art and design, spatial result communicates very clear ideas. The study is distinguished by being specialized in beautifying urban spaces considered “non-places” as well as parking lots, bridges or tunnels. In general, to give life to the functional spaces of contemporary urban landscape.
